A teenage tattooist who pursued his dream of sharing his art with the world has already built up a nine month waiting list - and even has celebrity clients on his books.

Kaine Westmoreland, 19, who owns the Notorious Ink Studio in Kippax, Leeds, is believed to be one of the youngest tattoo artists in the country.

He is currently in the running to try and win sponsorship by an ink company in a national competition.

But for those who decide to go for a spur of the moment tattoo at Notorious may be disappointed - Kaine is now taking bookings for September.

Kaine dropped out of Garforth Academy back in 2012 after a year of sixth form to pursue tattooing full time, after teaching himself the trade.

He moved to his current premises in Kippax in 2013, after setting up his own studio in Garforth at the age of just 17.

Kaine has known since childhood that he wanted to pursue a career in art.

He said: “When I was in nursery school, I made a camper van out of egg boxes and my teacher rang my mum to tell her she should push me in my art.

“My mum is a single parent and as I grew up I knew I wanted to use my art to help, but I wasn’t sure how I could make it pay. That’s when I had the idea of tattooing.”

He has now established himself as one of the most sought after tattooists in the area, and he is building up an impressive portfolio of clients.

“I tattooed Leeds Rhino player Zak Hardaker last year- it’s crazy,” he said.

And he’s currently in the lead to win sponsorship by ink supply company Jungle Supplies, after more than 500 people ‘liked’ a photo of a tattoo he designed of rapper Tupac.

The competition winner will be announced on January 22.

Kaine said: “It would be an amazing achievement for me if I won.”

He believes he may be one of the youngest tattooists in the country, but owning his own business at such a young age has its pitfalls.

He added: “All my friends go out drinking, but I don’t have time for that- I have a business to run!”
