Ryan Cross, 24, hurtled through villages close to York at more than twice the speed limit before he eventually hit a lamppost, fell out of his mother’s BMW and tried to run away.

Prosecuting Mark McKone told York Crown Court that he had topped 110mph on the A1 before overtaking a line of traffic on the York outer ring road and driving on the wrong side of the road. During the chase, Cross threw ecstasy worth more than £2,000 in street deals out of the car window but still had 68.5 tablets on him when he was arrested. Altogether, the Class A drug was worth nearly £2,400 and Cross also had £696 in cash when he was arrested which was confiscated by the court.
