CITY BUZZ was flying the flag for Greek Street last week.
The news that there was going to be a £20m investment in the area, as well as a new five-star hotel, bars and restaurants got us jumping for joy to see the once forgotten area fighting back.
With a flock of new businesses setting up on the street we were pleased to see one stalwart had stuck it out through thick and thin – the Living Room. But after all the changes the area has seen of late, the bar has now announced it will be closing.
From Monday, it will shut for good – but there will be a big send off.
Opening from midday every day this weekend, there will be live music, DJs, fire breathers and lots more.
A statement from the bar’s Facebook page said: “To all of our amazing customers [...] we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for sharing your memories with us here at The Living Room, and also for your continuous custom, loyalty and enthusiasm you have brought to venue throughout the many years we have been operating.
“It’s the end of an era.”
It added: “We’re obviously going out in style! Come and join us for the final goodbyes. It’s been an absolute pleasure!”
The Living Room brand is owned by Stonegate Pub Ltd, which also owns Yates’s, Slug and Lettuce and Missoula Bars.
We’re not sure what exactly is in the pipeline for this venue and whether it’s just changing to a more upmarket Stonegate brand to fit in with the snazzy new Greek Street makeover.
But City Buzz will bring you all the gossip as soon as we find out.
