A Leeds nightclub is elbowing its way into the comedy world with help from funnyman Jason Manford.
Pryzm, on the corner of Woodhouse Lane and Merrion Street, is joining forces with the Mancunian comic to launch a new comedy club at the venue.
From Friday, March 27, the nightclub will start hosting twice-weekly comedy gigs.
Manford’s Comedy Clubs have already been set up at venues across the country by the comedian and his brother Colin (who is also a comedian).
Speaking about the launch, Jason said: “I want to put something back into what comedy has given me.
“Earlier this year I partnered with my brother Colin to open Manford’s Comedy Clubs all over the country.
“Pryzm will bring our total number of clubs to over 30!”
Mat Moriarty, marketing manager at Pryzm, said: “I look forward to seeing some exciting results and excellent comedy, which is sure to put a smile on customer’s faces!”
There are only a handful of comedy clubs still going strong in Leeds city centre after the closure of Mr Ben’s a few years back, and the Hifi Club is one of the front runners.
But Jongleurs is also upping its game after moving from its previous site at Maluko to a more central venue at Tiger Tiger around the corner.
The fact that a well-known name like Jason Manford could grace the stage at Pryzm will most likely encourage other comedy venues to improve, after all healthy competition is only a good thing.
Pryzm’s comedy nights run every Friday and Saturday from 7.30pm.
