THIS week we learned the sad fate of one of the city’s best alternative bars.
Fab Café announced it was going to close on April 11 after almost 14 years.
The venue didn’t look like much from the outside, but inside it was a treasure trove of awesome movie memorabilia.
Film posters, signed props and even a life-size Darth Maul and a Dalek united rockers and geeks alike, and were just a few of the weird and wonderful things you’d find at the bar.
But in a couple of months the venue will be turned into a drop-in centre for Leeds City Council.
It’s a shame because all of the regeneration in the area – from the arena to the Hilton Hotel – could have really helped bring in more customers.
It’s the end of an era, but the management spoke to City Buzz and said it wouldn’t be a case like The Cockpit, where it closes for good and that’s that.
Instead, the owners plan to find another site and take their time to make sure it lives up to the previous venue.
As they say, good things come to those who wait.
It certainly got you all talking so we’ve included some of your comments in the panel to the right.
