IT WAS only a few weeks ago that Millennium Square was transformed into a Winter Wonderland as the popular ice skating rink returned for another year.
But now the city centre site stands empty again after the Ice Cube was packed away.
However, it’s barely even Spring and plans are already underway to get more crowds flocking to the square for the summer.
Music fans will be pleased to hear that Leeds City Council is planning to make the most of the summer sun and is busy organising a series of summer concerts at the square.
Acts already on the line-up include 10cc, who will be performing on Friday, July 17, UB40’s Ali Campbell, Mickey and Astro on Saturday, July 18, ABBA tribute group Bjorn Again on Sunday, July 19 and Alfie Boe on Friday, July 24.
The city isn’t exactly short of concert venues or music festivals at the moment but you can’t beat an outdoor, summer concert.
And it’s good to see such a prime city centre site not going to waste, and it’s certainly a great venue for a gig.
City Buzz has also heard that a couple of other names are set to join the bill, with one particular act aimed at a younger audience.
It’s great that the council is trying to include most age groups and incorporating a few different genres to ensure the crowds come flocking.
Millennium Square really is a blank canvas and an awesome space to host a big event.
It may only be March but we’re well and truly in the summer spirit now.
Keep your eyes peeled in the YEP to find out what other musicians are in the pipeline.
