Nursery manager stole over £22,000

Have your say

The daughter of a millionaire lottery winning couple admitted stealing over £22,000 from the nursery she managed.

Samantha Crossland, 30, saw her parents Susan and Michael Crossland scoop a £1.2million jackpot in 2008.

But a court heard that she pocketed fees families were paying for their children to attend the Child’s Play day nursery in Dewsbury.

Leeds Crown Court heard Crossland’s theft came to light when the owner discovered discrepancies in the accounts.

Crossland, of Mirfield, admitted theft and Robin Frieze, mitigating, said she had now offered to pay the money back by instalments.

Recorder Ray Singh told Crossland hers was a custodial case and he would take a lot of persuading not to send her to jail. He added he might be persuaded not to send her down if the money was paid in full within eight weeks and adjourned sentencing to Friday.
