Now Leeds is getting a DOG cafe

If you weren't already excited enough about Leeds getting a cat cafe, you'll be delighted to hear there's going to be a canine equivalent.

The Hessian Cafe in Oakwood is running a Doggy Cafe launch event on December 16 and 17, when pooches and their owners will be welcomed for a weekend of fun.

Doggy Cafe is a social network which hosts events, workshops and experience days aimed at dog lovers.

There will be afternoon tea, a dog-friendly menu, non-alcoholic dog beer, and the chance for your pet to meet Santa.

Doggy Cafe is a UK-wide initiative, and it's hoped that the gathering in Oakwood will be the first of many events in Leeds that brings dogs and their owners together.

Conveniently, it also coincides with the Yorkshire Dachshunds Group's annual Christmas walk at nearby Roundhay Park, just a short distance from the cafe. Around 130 sausage dogs are expected to attend.

Tickets are £15 per dog and owner, which includes afternoon tea and a canine treat. Bookings should be made in advance by contacting Hessian Cafe on 0113 2498777.

Dog lovers without pets of their own are also welcome.
