A desperate plea by a young man from Norway to find his dad - who he believes could be from Leeds - is currently sweeping social media.
William Lawrence Berndtsen posted a heartfelt message on his Facebook page asking people to help make his “dream come true” and find his father, alongside a photo of himself and a picture of his dad taken 22 years ago.
It reads: “Hi, I’m from Norway and I’m trying to find my father through Facebook. I’m clueless, all I know is that he is from the UK and somewhere around Leeds. My mother said he called himself Johnny. All I have is this picture taken 22 years ago. Please help me by sharing!”
Since it was first posted five days ago, it has been shared 23,000 times as Facebook users rush to help the 21-year-old.
William told the YEP his mum met his dad on a class trip to Lanzarote in January 1993, but after finding out she was pregnant, she returned two months later and could not find him.
He said: “My mom said she believed he was from north of England or Leeds, but can’t be sure. I know that he went under the name of ‘Jonny’ at that time. My mom met him on a class trip to Lanzarote, they spent time together in Puerto Del Carmen.
He added: “She went back to tell him, but it was too late. She found out like two to three weeks after she came home from the trip. This was in January 1993 when she went back in March, it was reported that he had gone on to Fuerteventura.”
William said he has been amazed by the support he has received on social media in the hunt for his dad.
“I always lived in wonder who my dad was or where I came from - curious about if I have other related family or family in the UK from his side. I’m really grateful for all the shares, and for each share and like I feel like it’s a step closer to an answer,” he said.
