New community art space for corner of Leeds city centre

A NEW art space has launched in the city centre to help '˜nurture Leeds's creative community'.

Lady Beck Studios at Mabgate has been taken on by Armley-based art space Assembly House.

The space, which was previously known as ‘Enjoy’, aims to be a community hub for artists with exhibitions, workshops, talks and screenings in the pipeline.

Lester Drake, director at Assembly House, said: “We are excited to be involved with the future of this art space and are committed to ensuring that the needs of artists remain the sole focus of the venue.

“We strive to [...] continue to nurture Leeds’s creative community and sustain the long-term provision of affordable workspaces.”

An additional floor has been added to the site, which will be developed into affordable studios focussing on emerging groups and collectives.

Leeds College of Art graduate Lester added: “Having benefited from similar offers when we established, we feel it is important to provide opportunities to new groups starting out.”
