New chapter for school library

Calverley CE Primary School has opened the library in one of the rooms in the main building thanks to a reallocation of classrooms following a £2.1m two-storey extension to the school.

The Friends of Calverley CE Primary raised more than £13,000 this year at various fairs and events to help fund the library move.

In addition, parents, family and friends made financial contributions to assist with set up costs.

The library now boasts books for all age groups and computers to help with research 
for schoolwork and it has been decorated in bright colours 
to make it appealing for students.

Many of the books were donated by last year’s year six pupils who have since moved on to secondary school.

They donated a new copy of their favourite books to kick-start the new library book collection.

All donors have been recognised in a commemorative ‘thank you’ piece of artwork which is displayed in the 
library.

Headteacher Bob Curran said: “The new school library is an asset to the school.

“I want to thank the Friends of Calverley CE Primary School for raising the money to kickstart the library.

“We couldn’t have done it without them.

“Reading is very important and we feel that this space will help to instil a lifelong love of reading in our pupils.”

Julia Tyrer, chairwoman of The Friends of Calverley CE Primary School, said: “A lot of hard work went into raising the money.

“We want to thank everyone who played a part in raising it.”
