A NEW book is set to give readers a fascinating insight into the long and proud story of Temple Newsam House in east Leeds.

Tales From The Big House: Temple Newsam has been written by Steve Ward, a Kippax-based author with a particular interest in history.

It charts the many twists, turns and changes at Temple Newsam – once known as the Hampton Court of the North – from the estate’s origins in the 12th century.

Subjects covered include its connections with the Knights Templar and the design of the house’s grounds by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.

A launch event is being held at Waterstone’s bookstore in Leeds city centre from 7pm to 8.30pm tomorrow. For more details, ring 0113 244 4588.
