National Coal Mining Museum tragedy victim is named

Police have named the mine worker killed in an underground accident at the National Coal Mining Museum near Wakefield.

Michael Buckingham, 58, of Grimethorpe, Barnsley, died on Tuesday morning after he became trapped by heavy machinery he was working on at the museum at the former Caphouse Colliery, Overton.

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating.

Mr Buckingham was employed by a local mining company doing contract work to extend an underground roadway to enhance the visitor experience at the museum,
