Police are appealing for information after a man was seen on the wrong side of the motorway barrier on the M62 at Altofts.

Officers were called to the location, just prior to Junction 31, at approximately 6.06am this morning, Tuesday, June 6.

He was seen by a passing motorist on the eastbound carriageway, at the point where the motorway crosses the canal, and is described a white male, medium build, short brown hair, possibly aged around 30-year-old.

A number of searches of the area have been ongoing by police officers, firefighters and NPAS at the scene today.

Detective Inspector Tim Hunt of Wakefield District CID, said: “Both the police and partner agencies have been conducting widespread searches on that stretch of the canal and surrounding area this morning, since reports were received of a man being seen on the wrong side of the barrier.

“So far officers have not located anyone in the area and we would like to speak to anyone who may have information or seen this man in the nearby vicinity.

“Any dashcam footage from anyone passing at the relevant time would be useful.

“Clearly we are concerned for this man’s well-being given where he was sighted and are continuing to conduct a number of enquiries.

“I would ask anyone who has any information at all to please contact Wakefield District CID on 101 referencing log 183 of today.”
