The Health North ‘Connected Health Cities’ plan will see health care and academic experts from across the North of England work together to help local services.

Yorkshire is one of four ‘city regions’ to benefit from the £20m Northern scheme, with data from Bradford, Leeds and Sheffield being used.

The project is being developed by the Northern Health Science Alliance, which brings together university medical schools, hospitals and science networks in the North.

It will involve pilot schemes that will tie together patient care in a number of areas such as hospital admissions, GP services and social services.

It is hoped that the new collaborations will create a more complete picture of local health and social care.

Health and Innovation Minister Nicola Blackwood MP said: “It is fantastic to see Health North bringing data from different city regions together to benefit the patients they serve.

“This project could set an exciting precedent of working collaboratively across regions, with the potential to be replicated right across the country.”

As part of Connected Yorkshire, the University of Leeds will provide support through the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics and the University of York will offer research expertise to support how linking data can transform health care in the region.
