Motorist violently confronted in Dewsbury

Police are appealing for information following an incident in which a driver was violently confronted by a number of men.

The 22-year-old victim was driving a blue Toyota Celica along Halifax Road, Dewsbury at around 9pm on Saturday when a silver car pulled in front, causing him to stop.

Three men got out of the silver car and started shouting and swearing at the victim. One of the men punched the victim a number of times to his face and head and attempted to get in to the driver’s seat.

As traffic built up behind the parked cars, one of the men caused damage to the front of the Toyota before the group got back in their vehicle and drove off.

The men are all described as Asian and aged in their early 20s.

One of the men was 5ft 7ins, with short, cropped hair and a square face. He was wearing a dark grey top, possibly had a piercing in his left ear and spoke with a local accent but also used Asian language.

Another of the men, also 5ft 7ins, was slim and wore dark clothing and a dark grey scarf over the bottom part of his face, and spoke with a local accent.

A third suspect was 5ft 6ins with dark hair and wore dark coloured clothes.

Detective Constable Andy Clayton, of Kirklees District CID, said: “The men involved are not known to the victim and we understand that this incident has come off the back of an earlier traffic dispute. Thankfully the victim was not hurt but he has been left shaken by the confrontation.

“The offence has caused traffic to back up and we are keen to speak to anyone who has witnessed any part of this incident or who can provide any information about the men involved.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Kirklees District CID via 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
