Morley sixth formers celebrate A Level success

Woodkirk Academy sixth formers scored a pass rate of 99 per cent across 30 different subjects, and half of grades awarded were A*-C. Most candidates also secured their first-choice university offer.

Top performers were Megan Bramley (AAA), Maisie Chadwick (A*AB), Ernie Chow (A*A*A), Joshua Fincher (A*AA), Adam Garside (AAA), Edmund Han (A*AA), Andrew Howard (A*A*A*), Alex Simkin (A*A*A), and star student Matthew Pinate, who notched up an incredible five A* grades.

Principal Joe Barton congratulated students:-

“Those receiving their A Level results today have done tremendously well. Their hard work and effort, supported by their teachers and parents, has allowed them to take the next steps in shaping their lives. Well done and on behalf of Woodkirk good luck in the future.”

There was plenty of joy at Morley Academy, where the year 13 cohort are the last group to take their exams at the school. Year 11 pupils will now progress to the GORSE Academies Trust’s post-16 centre, Elliott Hudson College.

In mathematics, a third of the school’s 28 candidates were awarded an A*/A grade.

Rebecca Garbutt achieved A*s in English language and literature and a B in history, and will head to Birmingham University to study literature and creative writing.

David Garbutt will also go to Birmingham to read history after collecting an A* in the subject and As in maths and physics.

Megan Lee will take up an accountancy apprenticeship with RSM after scoring A*s in maths and further maths and an A in business studies. Rebecca Grimham has also chosen the apprenticeship route, with a position at graphic design firm Freckle Creative after opening her results to see A*s in general studies, graphics and product design and an A in law.

Laura Jones is also hoping for a career in graphic design after accepting a place on a course at Salford University in Manchester. She was awarded A*s in graphics and English literature, an A in French and an A in AS Level geography.
