The sentencing of a mother who made her 12-year-old autistic son drink a cup of bleach because she feared social services would take him away was adjourned today.

Satpal Kaur Singh, 45, was remanded to a secure mental hospital until another hearing in February pending further psychiatric assessment.

Singh killed her son Ajit using Domestos in February, just hours after she refused to co-operate with council staff at a meeting over his care.

She also drunk some herself and in a suicide note said she had done it after being "scrutinised and hounded by social services".

Singh, of Lambourne Road, Barking, east London, pleaded guilty last month to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
