Missing Harrogate pensioner George Bass named as man found dead in River Calder on Good Friday
The body of a man found in the River Calder on Good Friday has been identified as a 77-year-old missing Harrogate man.
North Yorkshire Police officers have announced that the body recovered in the river off Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, was that of George Bass.
Mr Bass was reported missing on Wednesday March 2.
The last confirmed sighting of him was in Leeds the following day when he got off a bus at Leeds bus station, having travelled from York.
It is believed that he then went to Kirkgate Market in Leeds.
His daughter launched an emotional plea for his safe return last month.
Detective Inspector Bill Burns, from North Yorkshire Police, said: “Our thoughts are with George’s family and we are doing everything we can to support them at this sad time. We would also like to thank the members of the public and the media who have supported the appeal.”
