Memorial game for Richard

Ornella and Antony Davies present a cheque for Â£3,200 to members of Leeds General Infirmary's Intensive Care Unit. The money was raised by the Richard Davies' memorial charity football event

Richard Davies, 52, died on June 4, 2015 after being attacked on Yeadon High Street.

On the second anniversary of his death, Mr Davies’ relatives, friends and colleagues staged a charity event at Horsforth Cricket Club to raise funds for the Intensive Care Unit at the Leeds General Infirmary who fought to try and save his life.

The event on June 3 raised £3,200 and was organised by Mr Davies’ son Antony and friend Lee Poole. Old Rawdon AFC, made up of Richard’s friends, took on The Young Guns United, which consisted of Antony’s friends.

The match was officiated by special guest premiership referee John Moss. Young Guns won the thrilling 4-4 match after a penalty shoot-out.

Andy Hardisty, of Hardisty and Co, one of the sponsors, said: “It was an absolute testament to the love that everyone felt for Richard and the generosity and kindness of all involved has been absolutely amazing.”

Ornella, Richard’s wife, and her two children, Antony and Annabel, added that they were overwhelmed with the turnout and the help on the day. They were touched by the generous donations, raffle prizes and auction gifts.

They would like to say a massive thank you to everyone, in particular CLG Mechanical & Electrical and Metalcraft, both where Richard worked, who also sponsored the charity day. Later the family presented ICU staff with a £3,200 cheque. The memorial is set to become a annual event.
