Meanwood Leeds crash: Community leaders pay tribute to victims of tragic car collision

Community and civic leaders have issued heartfelt tributes after five people were killed in a tragic crash in Leeds.

And today tributes have been paid to those who lost their lives in the crash.

Leeds City Council leader Judith Blake said: “This is a truly terrible tragedy, and our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and friends of those that have lost loved ones.”

Leeds North West MP Alex Sobel also expressed his condolences following the collision yesterday.

"My thoughts are with all those affected by the tragic events on Stonegate Road yesterday," he said on Twitter.

Two young brothers who were killed in the car crash on Stonegate Road were today named as Ellis and Elliott Thornton by relatives.Coun Sharon Hamilton, whose Moortown ward covers Meanwood, said: "All I can say is that my heart goes out to all those involved.

"I have been out this morning to see exactly where it took place and I was told that there were five fatalities.

"The council has also been out and they are on standby.

"It is just really, really sad. To wake up on a Sunday morning to this. It's really sad and upsetting."
