Mass rendition of Leeds busker Jonny Walker's favourite song planned in tribute to him

A crowd of well-wishers will gather at one of the 37-year-old's regular busking spots, Albion Street, on Saturday morning to remember his life.

The silence will be followed by a mass rendition of Jonny's favourite song, Let It Be.

Jonny, a father-of-two from Beeston, died suddenly last month. The social activist was well-known as a street performer and had fans all over the world.

A 'buskathon' has already been held in Leeds city centre to raise money for Jonny's family.

People are asked to meet at 10am outside Boots for the tribute.

There will also be gatherings in York, Harrogate, Hebden Bridge, Liverpool and Norwich at the same time. The event will be broadcast live on Facebook.

Jonny, a vicar's son who grew up in Calverley, was a lifelong performer with a number of musical influences and inspirations.

His friend Fiona Pattison said:

"Jonny knew how to reach out and connect, a rare thing in today’s society. He helped different causes from the homeless, special needs to his own campaign to ‘Keep Streets Live’. He busked with the likes of Billy Bragg, Mark Thomas, and Bill Bailey in Camden to fight for buskers' rights. He even accompanied Jamie Olivier at a wedding, as well as being the people’s choice for their own weddings, having seen him playing on the streets somewhere. Jonny was a father, a son, a brother, a friend and a man of the people. He will be missed by many and as time goes on, his amazing legacy will live on."
