Man struck by car in Leeds city centre is seriously ill

A MAN who was hit by a car in Leeds city centre yesterday afternoon in an incident that led to traffic gridlock remains seriously ill in hospital.

The 38-year-old man suffered multiple serious injuries after he was struck by a red Nissan Micra just before 3.30pm at the junction of the Graingers Way and the A58, near the Majestics wine store.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman today said the man is being treated at Leeds General Infirmary where he is in a serious by stable condition.

Police closed two lanes of the A58 while police examined the scene of the accident.

Both lanes were re-opened just before 6pm, but traffic gridlock continued to affect major routes through the city until 7.30pm.

Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing
