A THUG bit off part of a man’s lip in a drunken attack outside a West Yorkshire nightclub.
Victim Paul Szabo was left in “unbelievable pain” after Danny Rudd bit clean through his upper lip before spitting it out.
Rudd, 23, of Fryston Road, Ferry Fryston, Castleford, was jailed for four and a half years on Monday after admitting causing grievous bodily harm with intent over the attack outside Big Fellas nightclub in Pontefract.
Leeds Crown Court heard Mr Szabo was in the nightclub with his girlfriend, Lisa Everett, on October 29 last year when Rudd joined their table.
There was a confrontation between the two men after Mr Szabo thought Rudd was laughing at him.
Rudd was asked to leave but launched his attack when Mr Szabo went outside for a cigarette ten minutes later.
Stephanie Hancock, prosecuting, said Rudd went up to Mr Szabo in an alleyway and said “come on big man” before repeatedly punching him to the ground.
Rudd then climbed on top of him and bit through his top lip in a “ragging” action.
Mr Szabo suffered permanent facial disfigurement from the bite and also had his nose broken in the attack.
The court was shown CCTV footage of the attack.
Rudd’s face was covered in his victim’s blood when he was arrested.
Michael Collins, for Rudd, said he accepted the seriousness of the offence and was genuinely remorseful for the injuries he had caused.
The barrister said: “He recognises while he was in drink he acted in a way which now causes him to be ashamed.”
Jailing Rudd, judge Rodger Ibbotson said: “This was clearly an attack of great ferocity by you upon him.
“It was a sustained attack, not a single blow. The injuries are serious. The most serious part is that you bit off and spat out part of the top of you victim’s lip.
“It was a very nasty attack indeed which had calamitous consequences for him.”
