Man’s body recovered from canal

POLICE divers have recovered a 34-year-old man’s body from the Knottingley and Goole Canal in Ferrybridge near Pontefract.

Specialist underwater rescue teams and fire crews were called to Fishergate after reports of a man falling into water near the Golden Lion pub Just after midnight yesterday.(Tuesday)

Det sgt Mark Hargreaves of West Yorkshire Police, said: “Officers from the regional underwater search unit recovered the body of a 34-year-old local man on Tuesday afternoon.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

“The coroner has been informed and an inquest is expected to be opened in due course.”
