Man's body found in Leeds canal

A STRETCH of a canal towpath in Leeds was closed after a body was spotted floating in the water.

Police were alerted by a passer-by shortly after 8.15am on Monday and went to the scene of the discovery in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal near the Armley Mills Industrial Museum.

Officers recovered the body of a man from the water and it was taken away for a post mortem examination.

The identity of the man was not immediately known, although police are believed to be checking one possible lead.

Unconfirmed reports suggested there were no suspicious circumstances.
