Man in serious condition in hospital after Leeds assault

A man was left with serious head injuries following an assault in Leeds city centre last night.

Emergency services received a report of a 43-year-old man in need of medical help outside a bar on Call Lane at about 9pm.

The victim was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where he was today in a serious condition.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and was today in police custody.

Acting Det Chief Insp Richard Holmes, from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who has seen the circumstances of how this man has come to be injured.

“Any witnesses are urged to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team via 101.

“Information can also be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111.”
