Man 'hiding in bushes' arrested in Leeds as police recover stolen car with fake plates

Police arrested a man hiding in the bushes in Leeds today after members of the public reported a group of men 'acting suspiciously'.

Police were tipped off to the group acting oddly in a vehicle in Farnley. Police arrived and the men then fled from the vehicle on foot.

The vehicle had been stolen in a burglary in Leeds, and the man was also arrested on suspicion of a burglary nearby. He remains in custody.

Elsewhere, the Leeds West police team a man has had his car seized in Bramley after being charged with driving while disqualified and a man from Calverley has appeared in court on a charge of burglary.

The police report said in full: "A male has been arrested this morning after males were seen acting suspiciously in a vehicle in the Farnley area.

"Officers arrived and the males ran from the vehicle. The male has been found hiding in bushes and arrested. The vehicle was identified as stolen and had false registration plates on it. The vehicle was stolen in a burglary in Leeds.

-> Man remanded in custody on firearms charges"The male was also arrested for a burglary nearby and is currently in custody.

"Unfortunately one or two did manage to evade being detained, but enquiries are continuing into their identities.

"In other news a man has been charged with driving whilst disqualified in the Bramley area and is awaiting a court date. His vehicle has been seized.

"The man arrested and charged last week for the burglary in the Calverley area has appeared in Court and has been remanded in custody until the end of august when he will re appear at Leeds Crown Court."
