Man from Dewsbury charged with terrorism offence

A man from Dewsbury has today been charged with an offence under the Terrorism Act.

The 34-year-old will appear before Westminster Magistrates on May 6 charged with collecting or making a record of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

He was arrested by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit following an investigation that was launched in connection with alleged fraud by a purported Syrian Aid Charity

Four men that were arrested in May 2014 as part of the investigation have all been released without charge.

A police spokeswoman said the investigation was ongoing.
