Man dies after car crashes into a tree in Wakefield

A 24-year-old man has died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree in Wakefield last night.

The incident saw a black Skoda Fabia travelling on Flanshaw Way towards Flanshaw Lane collide with the tree just before 9.50pm.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene to remove the occupants – the driver and a front seat passenger.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver, also a 24-year-old man, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he is being treated for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

Sergeant Carl Quinn, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “As part of our ongoing enquiries in to this collision, we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or the manner of driving of the vehicle prior to the collision.”
