Man in court charged with kidnap and attempted rape of woman in Leeds

A man has appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court to face charges of kidnap and attempted  rape of a woman in Leeds.

Abdul Nishat, 22, of Nowell Mount, Harehills, appeared in the dock at Leeds Magistrates' Court this morning to face charges of kidnap and attempted rape of a woman in the early hours of Saturday November 30 in the Woodhouse area of Leeds.

Afghan national Nishat, who was dressed in a grey sweatshirt and trousers, spoke via an interpreter to confirm his name, age and address.

He also confirmed that he understood the charges.

No pleas were entered at the brief hearing.

District Judge David Scanlon remanded Nishat in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court at 9.30m on January 10.
