A man who was arrested after an unidentified woman was seen getting into his car in a “suspicious” incident has been released without charge after she was tracked down.

The 47-year-old was being held on suspicion of kidnap after a member of the public saw him helping the drunk young woman into his vehicle on Gelderd Road near the Ring Road on Sunday evening.

West Yorkshire Police arrested him after tracing his car, but then appealed for help to find the woman, who he had reportedly dropped off in Farnley.

Detective Sergeant James Entwistle, of Leeds CID, said she had since been found and spoken to.

“We are now satisfied that the woman is safe and that nothing untoward has taken place. The man who was arrested was released on bail on Monday but his bail will now be cancelled,” he said.

“We are very grateful to all the members of the public who responded to the appeal for information which assisted in bringing this matter to a conclusion.”
