A 64-year-old pedestrian has died after he was knocked down in the Dalton area of Rotherham yesterday evening.

The man was believed to have been crossing the road outside of Silverwood Miners Welfare Club in Dalton when he was hit by a blue Honda Civc at around 8.20 pm.

The car was travelling along the A630 Doncaster Road towards Thrybergh when it hit the man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20-year-old man driving the Honda has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Specialist road traffic officers are asking witnesses who saw what happened or saw the Honda in the area prior to the crash to come forward.
