The Briggate restaurant is now serving Signature Collection meals, and is the only McDonald’s in the city which will sell the fast food chain’s thickest burgers ever.

There are just nine branches of McDonald’s in the whole of Yorkshire offering the range, which uses patties made from 100 per cent British or Irish beef.

The chain’s food developers worked with the Chefs Council - whose members have worked in Michelin-starred restaurants - to create premium burgers in three flavours. The Classic, BBQ and Spicy are served in a brioche bun.

Briggate franchise holder Pritpal Singh said:

“I am delighted to bring the Signature Collection to Leeds. We have already had fantastic feedback from customers who have been debating their favourite flavour. We’re really excited to make all three burgers a permanent addition to the menu, and meet our customers’ taste expectations with the new range.”

Diners are served their burger and fries in stylish black packaging, and ingredients include Beechwood smoked bacon, Batavia lettice and Pepper Jack cheese.

A pilot scheme saw the new choices sell out in the first few days of the trial. The first restaurants to serve the burgers were in the south of England, and the latest phase means the menu is now available in 149 outlets across the UK.

McDonald’s food development director Duncan Cruttenden said:

“At McDonald’s we are continually investing in and innovating with our menu to offer something for everyone. When the Chefs Council started to develop this new premium offering, we worked with a brief generated by our customers – they told us they wanted thicker beef patties and high quality ingredients, freshly prepared. We’ve crafted a range that is a truly exciting permanent addition to our menu.”

As the Signature Collection options have the thickest meat patty of any McDonald’s burger worldwide, customers have been warned to expect a slightly longer wait for their order to be cooked. They are priced at £6.19 for a full meal.

Other Yorkshire branches serving the Signature Collection include Leeming Bar Services, on the A1 at Bedale, and the outlets at York’s Clifton Moor and Monks Cross retail parks.
