#LoveTwitter: First tweets from Leeds celebrities

Boasting five hundred million tweets a day and 200 billion a year, the site has come a long way, playing host to many significant news events in the process.

To commemorate the ten year anniversary, we’ve dug out the first tweets from a selection of Leeds celebrities for your amusement.

For all Twitter is ten, as you might expect, most of the celebrities didn’t join the site until some years later.

We begin with perhaps one of Leeds’ most famous sons, Radio X presenter, Chris Moyles.

Chris may now boast a whopping 3.83 million followers, however many of them have likely never stumbled across his frustrated first tweet, which received a poultry 2 retweets.

Catfish on Twitter were obviously a problem back in 2009 as well, as Chris vented his frustrations at the imposters.

By contrast, Ricky Wilson, lead singer of the Kaiser Chiefs seemingly joined Twitter because he had nothing better to do. He somehow ended up with two broken Tvs and hence decided to join Twitter.

It does however, mark the rare occasion Ricky’s struggled for an audience. His original follower count of one has increased somewhat in the last few years, sitting at 380,000

currently.

Former Leeds footballer, Robert Snodgrass marked his first tweet by commenting on the likely hangovers on New Year’s Day.

Elsewhere, our most prominent reporter on Twitter, Phil Hay marked his introduction with the words: “If you can’t beat them, join them.”
