Lord Mayor of Leeds in unique 10K double

THE LORD Mayor of Leeds will complete a unique double when he starts this Sunday's Asda Foundation Leeds 10K before lacing up his trainers to take part in the event.

Coun Gerry Harper, who will be the first Lord Mayor of Leeds to run in the flagship race, will wear a T–shirt emblazoned with an image of his mayoral chains of office.

Organised by Run For All, the event is part of the lasting legacy of the late inspirational Jane Tomlinson CBE, who founded the charity road race shortly before her untimely death.

Coun Harper said: “It is an absolute honour to be able to start and take part in the Leeds 10K on Sunday, which is an enduring legacy to the achievements of the late Jane Tomlinson CBE, who continues to be such an inspiration to so many people.

“I am looking forward to taking on the Leeds course myself and raising money for my two chosen charities this year Epilepsy Action and Heart Research UK.

“As someone who was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2003, I am really keen to emphasise during my time as Lord Mayor that having the condition should be not seen as a barrier to anyone wishing to participate in great events such as this one.”

Former Leeds Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield MBE will be among the thousands of runners taking part in this Sunday’s race. Also taking part will be model Nell McAndrew, Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick and BBC presenters Harry Gration and Nicola Rees.
