Live exercise set to simulate major incident at Leeds hospital
Hospital patients are being warned that there will be a 'live decontamination exercise' at Leeds General Infirmary's emergency department today.
The planned exercise will test the hospital’s response to a major contamination incident, and will be performed working with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Yorkshire Police.
It will see volunteers acting as contaminated casualties treated with special equipment outside the emergency department, and follows a similar exercise staged in Leeds last year.
Banners and posters will be put on display around the site to reassure members of the public that an exercise is taking place.
A spokesman for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: “Teams will be making sure that the trust’s decontamination plan works effectively.
“This plan would be put in place to safely decontaminate members of the public and to prevent the wider contamination of patients, public and staff.”
