Tobias Bar Ltd applied to Leeds City Council for a premises licence to sell alcohol and play live or recorded music.

Bosses of the premises, on Commercial Street in Rothwell, had applied to play live music from 9pm-11pm, Thursday-Saturday, and sell alcohol every day from 11am-12.30am.

A decision on a licence for the venue was due to be made at the council’s Licensing Committee yesterday after an objection was raised about the potential of noise nuisance. But the hearing was cancelled on Friday after the objection was withdrawn, following an agreement to reduce its opening hours.

A council officer said the licence was granted conditionally. Owners of the venue have also applied for planning permission to change the use of the premises, currently listed as a retail unit, to a cafe bar.

A report by Environmental Health said plans for the premises show a ground floor and first floor seating area, and a smoking area at the rear.
