Leeds wordsmith Matthew is talking up new single

Have your say

A Leeds poet has put his gift of the gab to good use on a new artistic collaboration that’s well worth shouting about.

Matthew Hedley Stoppard, 28, from Richmond Hill, is releasing a spoken word single with backing from Yorkshire art-rock band The Glass Delusion.

The single, entitled You’ll Find Us In The Parks, is an unashamed love letter to Leeds’s green spaces. Its cover features artwork by local illustrator Laura Long.

Matthew said: “The whole project is an attempt to do something different, artistically.

“I have two young children and the parks of Leeds are very important to me and my family, so I wanted to write something that did them justice but also paid attention to the more quirky elements associated with parks.

“I’m very pleased with the end result and glad we have created a small artistic community with poets, musicians and painters.”

Asked about the chances of the single making it into the charts, Matthew said: “It’s eligible in theory but I’m not holding my breath!”

You’ll Find Us In The Parks is one of nine tracks on a spoken word album called Runt County that will be released on CD by the Adult Teeth Recording Company in September.

Matthew and The Glass Delusion will be celebrating the release of the album with an appearance at Chapel Allerton’s Seven arts centre on Thursday, August 28.
