Leeds wind farm bosses issue big-money grants reminder to community groups

Banks Renewables is aiming to distribute about £10,000 each year from the fund, which is linked to its wind farm development at Hook Moor, near Micklefield in east Leeds.

Beneficiaries to date include Aberford Bowling Club, Micklefield Tenants & Residents Association and the Methley Mites playgroup charity.

But with £14,000 currently sitting in the fund, Banks is keen to hear from more applicants who could put the money to positive use.

Grants of up to £3,000 are on offer, with eligibility normally restricted to projects, organisations and activities in the Aberford and Micklefield areas.

Lewis Stokes, community relations manager at the Banks Group, said: “Public funding remains very hard to come by for many community groups, and the money available from this fund could make a big difference to their work for years to come.

“We’re pleased with the type and quality of the projects that we’ve been able to support so far, but would love to hear as many new ideas as possible about the ways in which the money that the wind farm is generating can make even more of a long-term difference to the local area.”

The five-turbine wind farm began operating in 2015, despite opposition from residents concerned that its site was too close to their homes.
