A volunteer group from Morley has won a prestigious industry award thanks to its tireless work at local woodlands.

The group picked up gold in the Urban and Community Award during this year’s staging of England’s premier and hotly-contested forestry competition - the Royal Forestry Society’s (RFS) Excellence in Forestry Awards.

Churwell Environmental Volunteers (CEV) were described by judges as “One of the most impressive and effective voluntary organisations we have ever encountered.”

The group, which was formed in 2008, were recognised for their work at the Clarksprings and Daffil Woods, which are owned by Leeds City Council.
