Vital repairs at a Leeds church can go ahead after a £3,500 windfall.

St John’s, on Barcroft Grove, Yeadon, has received the money from the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust. It is one of a dozen in the county to receive a grant from the restoration body.

The money, along with £8,000 raised by the congregation, means roof and gutter repairs at the 171-year-old church can now begin. Its vicar, the Rev Richard Walker, said: “It is a growing church at the heart of the community. These repairs are vital in order to protect the building from further water damage and ensure we can continue to offer a warm, safe and welcoming place to worship.”
