A festival of cycling is taking over all three Leeds universities and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust until March 13.
The UTravelActive Festival will give people the chance to try out a penny farthing or a six-seater cycle, take part in pedal-powered challenges and taste a smoothie blended by a bike.
The festival marks a two-and-a-half year project led by the charity Sustrans in association with the Local Sustainable Development Fund to offer practical support to students wanting to take up ‘active travel’ through cycling or walking.
During the project over 10,000 people had the chance to hire bikes or take part in walking challenges and maintenance classes.
Antonia Roberts, UTravelActive project officer, said. “There are so many inspiring stories to tell of people giving cycling a go.”
UTravelActive Cycle has secured funding so that the project continues for a further year. See utravelactive.org.uk/festival-of-cycling.
