Leeds United's Lewis Baker brings seasonal cheer to young patients at LGI

Baker teamed up with young patients at Leeds General Infirmary as he decorated a tree and spread seasonal cheer during a visit to the hospital’s congenital heart unit.

The midfielder also took along a haul of United festive decorations together with some Leeds teddy bears for the children being treated on the ward.

He was joined on the hospital visit by staff from the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF), which is United’s charity of the year

Baker told the club’s LUTV in-house television station: “It’s really nice to come and see the kids especially and help put a smile on their faces.

“Seeing first-hand what some of these kids are going through, it’s a lot – and it’s a lot for their parents as well, so if we can do small gestures like this to bring smiles then that’s great.

“I can’t imagine what they’re going through as families and especially it being Christmas time, it’s a time for people to really come together and helping them to smile as much as possible.”

United are aiming to provide new equipment such as life support and dialysis machines on the back of the partnership with the CHSF.

Other funds raised will go towards the refurbishment of the CHSF family unit at the LGI, which currently consists of seven bedrooms, a kitchen and a lounge area.
