Coleman's side are long odds-on to be relegated into League One with Sunderland sat second-bottom and eight points off safety with just six games left to go.

Leeds, meanwhile, are safely entrenched in mid-table in 13th but still ten points off the play-offs - a factor that Coleman hopes his side will use to their advantage in Saturday's Championship clash at Elland Road.

Coleman said of Leeds to the official Sunderland site: "Where they are, they aren’t going to get in the play-offs and they aren’t in relegation trouble, so they will be playing for pride whereas for us it’s very different – everything’s on it for us.

“There’s an eight-point gap so we have to go into every game and try to win, plain and simple, and if we come back from Elland Road with a draw we’ll be disappointed.

“Normally, you’d think that was a good point but where we are, we have to win the game.”
