Leeds United title win anniversary events are just champion for fans

The feelgood factor may be well and truly back at Elland Road as Leeds United eye a push for promotion.

But manager Garry Monk’s men still have some way to go before they scale the heights reached by Leeds in the early 1990s.

And United fans have now got the chance to turn back the clock to that golden era at two celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the club’s most recent league title triumph.

An ‘audience with’ style event is being held at Keighley’s Victoria Hall on Wednesday, April 26, which will be 25 years to the day since the Whites clinched the old First Division championship at the expense of bitter rivals Manchester United.

The Centenary Pavilion at Elland Road will then host an anniversary black tie dinner the following evening.

Both events are due to be attended by Howard Wilkinson, Leeds’s manager during their never-to-be forgotten 1991-92 season.

Playing heroes making an appearance will include Gary McAllister, Mel Sterland, Tony Dorigo and Steve Hodge.

Mick Speight, managing director at MJK Sports Events, which is organising the Keighley bash, said: “We’ve had this in the schedule for more than two years and it’s an honour to be able to do it.”

The Victoria Hall event has been dubbed The Real Class of 92 in a thinly-veiled dig at David Beckham and the other Manchester United players whose rise through the youth ranks at Old Trafford was chronicled in a film called The Class of ‘92.

Leeds supporters are being encouraged to get involved on social media with the build-up to the Keighley evening by posting their memories of April 26, 1992, using the #realclassof92 hashtag.

The Centenary Pavilion dinner will raise funds for the trust founded in memory of the late Leeds midfielder and 1992 title winner Gary Speed.
