LEEDS-BORN author Barbara Taylor Bradford is the second richest author, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.
Taylor Bradford, who was born in Armley, started her working life as a typist at the Yorkshire Evening Post at the age of 15, and quickly became a reporter. In her twenties she moved to London to work on a national newspaper but never forgot her Leeds roots.
She has sold more than 30 million books worldwide, and is the second richest author with £149 million. But her wealth is eclipsed by that of JK Rowling, who remains in the top spot with £580 million - more than the combined wealth of the six authors below her.
Fifty Shades Of Grey author EL James has made the list for the first time after her racy novels amassed her a fortune of £75 million.
James, 52, is the fourth wealthiest author according to the newspaper, after her tales of a sadomasochistic love affair seduced millions of readers and spawned a Hollywood film, party games and a lingerie line.
She has toppled Jackie Collins as the queen of the ‘bonk-buster’, pushing Collins, who has a fortune of £65 million, into fifth place.
Lord Archer is third with £140 million.
