Leeds superheroes to walk in the park

The September 4 event at Temple Newsam Park will see people dress up as their favourite superhero to raise vital funds for the congenital heart unit at LGI.

Andy McNally, the charity’s marketing and communications manager, said: “Our Superhero Walk is a celebration of our heart patients, families, friends and supporters. It allows young congenital heart patients to mix with other children suffering from the disease, this day enables them to express themselves in a unique and fun way.

“It also promotes health, sociability and individuality, while raising valuable funds for our charity.”

The one-mile sponsored walk will feature patients, their friends and families, plus the general public.

Mr McNally added: “If it’s anything like last year, you’ll join forces with Batman, Spiderman, Minions, Superman, Iron Man, Peppa Pig, Catwoman, Wolverine, Captain America, Hulk, Flash, Thor, Wonder Woman, and of course, our own Katie Bear. However, real superheroes are disguised as ordinary people with extraordinary hearts - and costumes are not mandatory.” Family tickets, for the Simplyhealth sponsored event, cost £10. That includes two adults and up to three children. Families are asked to raise a minimum of £50 for CHSF.

Meanwhile, the charity is set to be boosted by a ‘non-bog standard’ fundraiser this weekend.

A hi-tech toilet will in Briggate today and tomorrow and people are invited to spend a penny, which will be converted into a pound for the Keeping the Beat campaign.
