Winter is coming but Armley will be prepared.

Altogether Armley is staging a winter awareness event next week to help allay people’s fears on issues like social isolation and health over a soup and roll.

The event will be a Armley One Stop Community Hub on Stockshill on Wednesday, November 15 from 2pm to 6pm.

It will feature representatives from West Yorkshire Police, NHS, Leeds City Council, Leeds City Credit Union, Armley Helping Hands, British Gas, MIND, Forward Leeds, Armley Community Hub and Bramley based agency BARCA-Leeds, which runs Leeds City Council’s Public Health commissioned Better Together contract for West Leeds.

Jasmine Swinerton, from BARCA-Leeds, said “This focuses on the social issues that lead to poor health, such as social isolation, and uses a community development approach to work with individuals, groups and communities to help them improve their situation and live longer, healthier lives.

“Better Together staff will attend the Armley winter awareness event and offer attendees soup and a roll, general advice on winter well-being and how to get involved in groups and services in their local area.”

A spokesman for Altogether Armley said “We are delighted so many agencies have supported this event. While Christmas is a lovely time of year for most of us – it can be a difficult, stressful and lonely time for some. We hope by holding this event we can help people deal with the worries they have for themselves or loved ones.”
