Residents of a Leeds street said they were evacuated following a huge house fire in the early hours of Monday morning.

Fire services were called to a property on Belle Vue Terrace in Guiseley at 4.39am on Monday.

The fire involved the ground floor, first floor and roof, and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the property has been “extensively damaged.”

The house was unoccupied and no injuries were reported. Four fire engines attended from Rawdon, Shipley, Idle and Cookridge stations.

Neighbour Ian White, 49, said: “I was woken at about 4.45am by the milkman, who told me that a house on the street was on fire.

“They evacuated the whole street - about twenty houses in all. The house is completely gutted.

“I have no idea who lives there, but it’s a good job no one was in at the time.”

Fire engines remained on the scene until late morning, and a Fire Investigating Officer is currently trying to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
